How Do I Unclog My Kitchen Sink?

How Do I Unclog My Kitchen Sink?

Mealtime is over and it’s time to clean the kitchen before putting your feet up with a glass of wine. You start running the water and all of a sudden your sink begins to fill up and clog up…

This probably sounds familiar to all of us at some stage, right? Your evening may not be ruined quite yet. Here are a few tips to try first before calling us:

Remove all the dirty dishes from the sink. You’re going to need some room to work with and a clear surface.

Find the Plunger. A plunger is the most common tool we seem to use when trying to push a clog through the U bend. Very often a plunger and a little muscle can work together just enough to push the blockage through the pipe.

Baking Soda and Vinegar. When muscle doesn’t work, sometimes a mixture of these two can work its magic. First, remove any standing water you have in the sink. Pour 1 cup of baking soda into the drain and then 1 cup of vinegar. You should immediately see bubbling from the combination. Once that is done, put a stopper in the drain, wait about 15 minutes, and then try running hot water. You might need to try this a couple of times to know if it is going to work or not.

P-Trap. Open up the cabinet doors under your sink and look for your drainage pipe. The P-Trap is part of the curved section of the drainpipe. Place a bucket under that area before you begin. Remove the nuts, loosen the ring and let any water or debris drop into the bucket. Look inside. Do you see anything that may be causing the clog? Reassemble the P-trap and then try running water through it.

Still have a Clog? Then give KLM a ring, we will be there in a flash to sort.
